Privacy Policy

Recall.nu is a tracker for TV series and movies. We store what is needed to run your account: your email address, your username, and the series, movies, watched episodes, likes and ratings you add. We don't sell this or use it for advertising, and the site has no analytics or tracking scripts.

Cookies

Recall only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work, which is why you are not asked for consent to them. None is used for tracking, analytics or advertising, and nothing else is stored in your browser.

  • Sign-in cookie (Recall.Auth): keeps you signed in. Set when you sign in, renewed as you use the site, and gone after 30 days without a visit or when you sign out.
  • Form protection cookie (.AspNetCore.Antiforgery): proves that a form was sent from this site and not from somewhere else. Set on pages with a form, and removed when you close the browser.
  • Message cookie (.AspNetCore.Mvc.CookieTempDataProvider): carries a confirmation such as "Marked as watched" from one page to the next. It exists for a moment and is removed as soon as the message has been shown.

What is loaded from elsewhere

Fonts, icons, styles and scripts are served from Recall.nu itself. Two things are not:

  • Posters and stills are loaded by your browser from TheTVDB's image servers (artworks.thetvdb.com), which therefore see your IP address, as any website you visit does.
  • The sign-in page may load Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. When it does, your browser talks to Cloudflare, which may set its own cookies for that check.

Sign-in

There are no passwords. You enter your email address and we send you a link that works once and expires after 15 minutes. Once the email has gone out we keep only a fingerprint (hash) of the link, not the link itself. Requests for links are rate limited to stop abuse.

Emails

We send two kinds of email, and nothing else.

  • Sign-in links, when you ask for one.
  • The weekly email, only if you turn it on (in your profile, or when the Dashboard offers it; it is off until you do). It lists new seasons, episodes that aired in the past week and that you have not watched, and what airs in the coming week. Weeks with nothing to say are skipped.

You can turn the weekly email off in your profile, or with the link at the bottom of every one, which works without signing in. The emails contain no images, no tracking pixels and no tracked links: every link goes straight to Recall.nu. We store whether the weekly email is on (and when you turned it on), whether you answered the Dashboard's one-time offer, and a record of the weeks we have sent it to you so that nobody gets it twice.

Your watch history and stats

When you mark an episode or a movie as watched we store which one, when you marked it, and how it was marked: one at a time, several at once (a whole season, or an episode together with the earlier ones), or by an IMDb import. The time is when you marked it, which is not always when you watched it; that is why your stats page leaves anything marked several at once or imported out of its month-by-month chart while still counting it in your totals. If you tell us you have stopped watching a series, your library records when you did, until you resume it.

Your stats page is worked out from your own watch history and ratings each time you open it. Only you can see it: there are no public profiles, and nothing on it is shared or sent anywhere.

How long things are kept

Your library, watch history, likes and ratings are kept for as long as your account exists; deleting your account removes them. The rest is cleaned up automatically once a day:

  • Sign-in links: deleted 7 days after they expired or were used.
  • Emails we sent you: the text is erased as soon as the message is delivered; the record that it was sent is deleted 30 days after sending.
  • Notifications: deleted 90 days after you read them. Unread notifications are kept.
  • The record of which new episodes you have already been told about: deleted 30 days after it was made.
  • IMDb imports and their rows: deleted 90 days after the import finished.
  • The record of which weeks the weekly email was sent to you: deleted 60 days after it was made.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself: open your profile and choose "Delete my account" at the bottom of the Account section. You are asked to type your username to confirm.

  • Removed immediately: the account itself (email address and username), your library, watch history, likes, ratings, notifications, IMDb imports, sign-in links, the emails we sent you, and your weekly-email setting with its history. Ratings you gave no longer count towards Recall ratings.
  • Not removed immediately: database backups are kept for about 9 days, and server logs for 30 days. Your data disappears from those as they expire. Backups are only used to restore the service after a failure.
  • Other browsers where you were signed in stop working within a few minutes. Signing in again with the same email address creates a new, empty account.

Logs

The server keeps technical logs for operation and security. They can contain IP addresses, for example when a rate limit is hit. Logs are not used to profile visitors. Log files are deleted after 30 days.
